Departing — Friday 12th March 2010
Friday The Southern Journey.
We plan to depart at 8.00am and head south along the Hume Highway. After a short stop for morning tea at Mundoonen Gap we continue south into Wagga Wagga for lunch. During the afternoon we travel along the Olympic Way, so named because the Olympic Torch passed through this part of the country when “it” was here for the nations first Olympic Games in 1956. On through Henty and The Rock into Albury then across the border and along the shore of Lake Hume to our motel in Tallangatta.
Saturday Eldorado/Woolshed Falls.
This morning we’re off to explore the Gold fields. First to the historic Gold mining town of Eldorado, which is home to a giant old four storey high Gold dredge. From here we make our way cross country to Woolshed Falls, just near Beechworth for our lunch. After lunch travelling towards Yackandandah we stop at the Lavender Patch, before heading back to Tallangatta.
Sunday Mt Hotham/Omeo/Lakes Entrance.
Today we head through Bright to Harrietville at the base of Mt Hotham, for our morning tea. From here it’s up and over this spectacular mountain, taking in the magnificent views as we climb the mountain, before heading through Hotham Village and Dinner Plain on our way to Omeo where we have our lunch stop. From the lookout above Omeo it’s a magnificent view across to Mt Kosciusko. After lunch we head through Bruthen and onto Lakes Entrance, where we book into our Motel, opposite the waterfront.
